Initially, it is important that you know the admissions process for grammar schools in the Birmingham area., dates, administration format and 11plus content for the Birmingham area.
Birmingham schools use an 11plus exam produced by CEM (Part of Durham University.) All 8 grammar schools in Birmingham use the same 11plus exam.
The Test Papers
The Birmingham schools are state schools and so do not charge fees. These schools use academic selection and entry is based on your child’s 11 Plus examination results.
The test contains questions that access your child’s standards in Literacy/Verbal Reasoning, Mathematics and Non-Verbal Reasoning.
It seems that there are no past papers are available to practice with.
The Birmingham 11 Plus exam is thought to be scored in this format:-
• 50% of points for Literacy/Verbal Reasoning skills,
• 25% for Mathematics skills
• 25% for Non-Verbal Reasoning skills.
The literacy section the examination will probably test your child on comprehension and levels of vocabulary. As with all 11plus exams the content and format may change at any time but solid literacy and mathematical skills will always remain important.
